The Lin Lab took a delightful spring outing to Juifen (九份) and had an exhilarating climb up Keelung Mountain. The weather was perfect, the scenery was beautiful, and the food at 星塵景觀餐廳 was delicious!

Dr. Suewei Lin has been awarded the Outstanding Research Award by the National Science and Technology Council. This achievement is a testament to the incredible efforts of every member of the Lin Lab. Congratulations to the team!

溫堉佑 and 郭予佑, two talented high school students doing a science project in the Lin Lab, won the 2nd Prize in Animal Science at Taiwan International Science Fair (TISF). They were also selected as representatives to compete at the Buca IMSEF in Turkey later this year. Congrats to 佑s!

Dr. Suewei Lin is awarded Academia Sinica Early-Career Investigator Research Achievement Award (中央研究院年輕學者研究著作獎) for his research on the interaction between hunger and thirst in the brain and how they coordinate to prioritize foraging decisions.

Today, we celebrate the graduation of Meng-Ting, who just received her Master's degree from National Yang-Ming University. We wish her a bright future in the career she chose to thrive!

European Molecular Biology is one of the most influential scientific organizations in the world. It is constituted by over 1800 leading researchers in Europe and other countries. Each year, EMBO selects promising life scientists as Global Investigators who are within six years as group leaders in the countries covered by the cooperation agreement. This year, Dr. Suewei Lin was selected as one of the nine new EMBO Global Investigators. 

Today, we celebrated a good sunny day with our summer intern students. We hope they will leave the lab with an inspired mind!

Dr. Suewei Lin is awarded Ta-Yu Wu Memorial Award (吳大猷先生紀念獎) from the Ministry of Science and Technology for his contribution to the understanding of neural circuit mechanisms for motivation.

With the outstanding performance of his team, Dr. Suewei Lin is now a tenured Associate Research Fellow at the Institute of Molecular Biology in Academia Sinica. Congrats to Suewei and the team!

Dr. Suewei Lin is awarded the 18th Y. Z. Hsu Scientific Paper Award (有庠科技論文獎) for his team's Nature Neuroscience paper, which revealed an elegant neural circuit mechanism for need prioritization. Congrats to Suewei and the team!

Our incredible postdoc, Chang-Hui, is leaving the lab to pursue another research career at VIB, Belgium. Thank you for your contribution to the lab, and we wish you an exciting journey ahead!

Dr. Bhagyashree Senapati completed her Ph.D. study today! It was an incredible journey for her and Lin Lab during the past few years. As the first Ph.D. student in the lab, She had brought to us so much joy and pride. She will soon leave the lab to pursue her postdoc research at the University of Oxford in the UK. We will sure miss you, Bhagyashree!

A belated welcome to Meng-Ting, who joined the Lin lab on 1st August 2019. She is currently a Master student in the Department of Life Sciences and Institute of Genome Sciences at National Yang-Ming University. Meng-Ting is interested in deciphering thirst-sensing in the fruit fly.

Bhagyashree's exciting Ph.D. work that unravels an elegant neural circuit mechanism for hunger-thirst interaction is now published in Nature Neuroscience. Big congratulations to Bhagyashree!

In the past two months, the Lin lab was brightened by three highly talented and motivated summer interns. We hope they enjoyed the experience and the science we have offered. We wish them all the best on the road to a bright scientific future.

Bhagyashree has been awarded a TIGP-travel grant. She will present her work at Gordon Research Conference: Neuromodulatory Mechanisms Underlying Flexible Brain Functions and Behavor on 26-31 May in Les Diableries, Switzerland. Congrats B!

The Lin lab welcomes a new blood Wen-Jie Chen. Wen-Jen received his Master's degree from the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology at National Taiwan University. He is interested in pursuing a career in neuroscience. Welcome aboard Wen-Jie!

Chang-Hui's paper published in eLife (read here) about hunger control of food-seeking behavior in the fly has been selected as one of the Best 3 Papers of IMB in 2018. Big congrats to Chang-Hui!

Bhagyashree presented her PhD work at this year's Asia-Pacific Drosophila Neurobiology Conference and won the Best Poster Award. Congratulations and well deserved Bhagyashree!

The Lin lab is fortunate to have a group of talented and motivated young scientists joining us during the summer months. We hope they all had a fruitful two-month and wish them a bright scientific future!

Ian Juan joined the Lin lab as a Master's student from National Central University. He is interested in studying how the brain integrates sensory inputs and motivational states to make appropriate behavioral decisions. Welcome aboard Ian!

Dr. Chang-Hui Tsao was awarded a NPAS travel grant. He will present his work on "decoding a hunger circuit" at Neurofly 2018 in Poland. Congratulations!

To celebrate the beginning of 2018 and say good-bye to the Rooster Year, the Lin Lab had a lunch party at 辛殿, a hot-pot restaurant. This was our second time there but the food was still delicious as always.

Chien-Chun has successfully patched his, and also the lab's, first neuron in the fly brain. Bravo to the great work! We are expecting exciting discoveries on the way!
